Terms of Service

1. Description of Service

ChessLoft is a chess repertoire management and training platform. It allows you to build and study opening repertoires, import games from third-party chess platforms (Chess.com and Lichess), analyze games with the Stockfish engine, and track deviations from your prepared lines.

2. Accounts and Authentication

Accounts are managed through Clerk, a third-party authentication provider. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. ChessLoft is not liable for any loss or damage arising from unauthorized account access.

You may optionally connect your Chess.com or Lichess accounts to enable game imports. You can disconnect these at any time from your account settings. ChessLoft will only read game data from these platforms; it does not make moves or interact with your accounts beyond what is required for import.

3. User Content

You retain ownership of repertoires, annotations, and other content you create within ChessLoft. By using the service you grant ChessLoft a limited license to store and process that content solely to operate the platform.

Public repertoires you choose to share may be viewed and studied by other users. You can make a repertoire private at any time.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or systems
• Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from ChessLoft
• Use automated tools to interact with the service in ways that impose unreasonable load on infrastructure
• Reverse engineer or decompile any part of the platform

ChessLoft reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

5. Third-Party Services

ChessLoft integrates with Clerk (authentication), Convex (database and backend), Chess.com, and Lichess. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. ChessLoft is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of these third parties.

6. Intellectual Property

The ChessLoft name, logo, and platform code are the intellectual property of ChessLoft. Chess move sequences and opening theory are part of the public domain. Game PGN data imported from Chess.com or Lichess remains subject to those platforms' respective terms.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

ChessLoft is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free operation of the service.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChessLoft shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of ChessLoft after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
